Real Life, Real Moments

My favorite photos of my children aren’t the school photos or the ones taken in a studio.

My favorites are those captured as they do what they love doing. It brings out there true personalities, preserves in a moment who they are.

Some call these “journalistic style portraits.

For me, it goes to the heart of my experience as a photojournalist — embraces and captures the personality of the subject.

A person or family can hire me to come out to a location of their choice where I will spend up to one hour photographing in the person’s natural setting, bringing out their true personality.

Examples

  • Beverley is known for her love of cooking and makes the most delicious pies. I can visit when this person is in the kitchen cooking, capturing images both while she goes about this task and also a posed environmental portrait in that environment.
  • William loves cars and is a master under the hood of one. I can visit when he is in the garage hard at work, capturing both images as he does so as well as a posed environmental portrait in that setting.
  • Jason loves fly-fishing. It’s his favorite way to relax. Imaging photos captured while he’s out there casting his line, working a favorite stream in search of trout. And then also a posed portrait in that environment right there by the stream.
  • Kelly is an 8-year-old who loves to sled when it snows. I can arrange to meet at a sledding location of the family’s choice. Capture images of pure joy as they cruise down the slope.
  • Faith finds joy in martial arts. Imagine photos captured while she practices kata, jumping kicks and more.

All of the above allow for photographs that show the person for who they really are.

Each will be approached similar to a journalistic photo assignment, capturing the true moments (and emotions) in much the same way.
